What Do We Envision?

I like the story of the kindergarten teacher and her student. A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She occasionally walked around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was. The girl replied, "I'm drawing God." The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like." Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute."

This little girl was confident in her artistic ability to express who she thought God looked like. If you and I were to draw a picture of God, how would we envision Him? Would He be a loving Father or an angry judge just waiting for us to make a mistake? Is He the one giving life or the one taking it?

Good news! Jesus died so we can have a deep, intimate, personal relationship with God the Father. God wants us to fellowship with Him, which simply means to communicate with Him. However, for some reason, it's hard for many of us just to talk or spend time with God. To enjoy God, we need to get comfortable with Him, we don't have to be afraid of Him. We are called to enjoy the Father, because He is life - all life comes from Him. 1 Corinthians 8:6 says, "Yet for us there is only one God, the Father, who is the source of all things and for whom we have life..." James 4:8 says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you..." There are so many people in the world who think they can never come to God, can never have a relationship with Him, and can never be a Christian because they have issues in their life that they are trying to overcome first. They are trying to get themselves all straightened out so they can be good enough to have a relationship with Him. But that's wrong. The reason Jesus came is because we can never be good enough without Him. We can't go to God the Father in any other name except the name of Jesus. And when we do, we can come boldly, as often as we like and He will never get tired of us coming. Looking at the expression of the little girls face above, I can guarantee you that she was envisioning God as a fun, loving, compassionate Father.

James 1:16-17 says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
