The other day I received a Visa Card in the mail and as I read the enclosed instructions, it said, to have access to this visa card you must activate it by phoning the following number and until your card is activated it will lay dormant. I thought to myself, even though I have a Visa Card in my hand and potentially it has the power to provide finances at my request, it is of NO VALUE to me unless I activate it. Interesting!
It is easy for you and I to do the same thing with the Word of God, (the Bible), our instruction manual for life. We have it available to us, and potentially it has the answers to every question that we might have, and yet if it is not activated, it has no power to produce anything in our lives. It just sits dormant and collects dust. James 2:14 - Faith without works is dead - What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? If you and I allow the word of God to lay dormant in our lives and don't activate it by using our faith and practice being a doer of it, then in the times of crisis, when we decide that this Word should produce something for us, we will be VERY disappointed in the outcome, asking God, why He didn't come through for us. Don't get me wrong, God is full of grace and mercy and goes beyond anything we can imagine and can still come through for us when we don't deserve it, He loves us that much. However, it is important that we don't lean on God's grace as a way out of our laziness. Everything we are ever going to get from God, He has already given to us when we accepted Christ. NOW, we need to activate what He has given to us so we can use what is rightfully ours by following His instructions, His way, not ours! Deuteronomy 10:12 - What does the Lord thy God require of you? To walk in ALL His ways and to love Him and to serve the Lord your God with ALL your mind and heart and with your entire being.
