Sitting in a conference a few years back I heard a speaker say, "If a woman is beautiful in her teens and twenties, it's because God made her that way. But after she's married and the years pass, if she's still beautiful when she's fifty, sixty, and seventy years old, it's because of the way her husband treats her."
Agree or disagree, it doesn't matter - every woman wants to be valued and respected, especially from her husband. Hearing comments from her husband only when she disappoints, disagrees or doesn't fall into line with him can be very discouraging. Accepting each other for who you are in your uniqueness and giftings and not trying to change each other is one of the keys to a healthy marriage.
THE GIFT OF HONORING ONE ANOTHER IS THE GLUE THAT KEEPS YOUR MARRIAGE TOGETHER!
The most profitable investment husbands can make with their time, is to look for opportunities to appreciate, lift up and speak words of encouragement to their wives, so they can be ALL that God created them to be. In turn, it will come right back at you husbands, the wives will desire to bless and honor you in return. It is impossible to out-love your wife.
There is nothing more rewarding than a healthy marriage.
After 40 years of marriage, I can attest to the above statement because I have a husband that has valued, respected and loved me beyond anything I could have imagined. He is not perfect, he falls short just like the rest of us, but He has a perfect God, who he can depend on to give him insight and wisdom everyday.
Proverbs 5:18-19 - "... and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth ... may you ever be intoxicated with her love."
It's up to both of you to make the choice to honor one another and come under each others mission and make your marriage a place of joy.
You said, "I do" and now all that's left is the "do".
Ephesians 5:25 - "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church
and gave himself up for her.
