Should Have, Would Have, Could Have......

Regret, is a word that seems to be alive inside so many people today as they struggle with letting go of the mistakes they've made in their past.  Constantly looking behind them, they would say, "I should have done this, if I would have done that, if I could have changed this ....on and on they go.

The meaning of regret:  Pain of mind on account of something done or experienced in the past with a wish that it had been different, a looking back with dissatisfaction, with longing, grief or sorrow.

I have spent some time with a few people that were ill and close to death and all they wanted to talk about was their past regrets. Too many of us can be stuck with memories from our past that we can't seem to get over.  Either we've been hurt or we've hurt someone else and we have guilt. I don't care what you've done or haven't done, whom you've been with and whom you've walked out on; you can re-position yourself beginning right now.  You and I don't need to wait until we are on our death bed to decide to let go of our guilt, shame and regrets. Life is too short to let such pettiness keep us from enjoying everyday life. Why do we waste our time thinking about things we can't change?  We have all made mistakes in our past, how long are we going to punish ourselves?

The key is to forgive yourself, forgive others and move on.

Don't put it off.  You don't have to wait until tomorrow to forgive. Stop saying it is too hard, it's too much, it's not fair... Instead just decide, this is the day I choose to forgive.

A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing... Proverbs 17:22

Some of the feelings and thinking we permit will never be solved if we don't get to the root of it.  How we feel emotionally is how we feel physically.  I heard someone say "If you feel bad today, examine what happened yesterday." Was your day stressful?  Did you get offended? Did you get bad news? Were you disappointed about something?

God doesn't want us to carry this heavy baggage through life.  He wants us to be free.  He uses the Word of God to eradicate our guilt.

Romans 8:1 says, "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus".

Philippians 3:13 says, "Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own.  But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus".

This is the day that The Lord has made, let's rejoice and be glad in it!
